   The Microbiologist Project:
a closer look at viruses and bacteria

There is a whole world of activity around us that cannot be detected with the naked eye, a world inhabited by microbes. Microbes are the smallest living organisms, consisting of a single cell, and are so tiny that millions can fit into the eye of a needle.  Microbes live everywhere - they are in the air we breathe, the ground we walk on, the food we eat, and even inside us!

There are various types of microbes, including bacteria, fungi, archaea, protists and to an extent, viruses, although there is debate as to whether viruses are considered living or not. This project will examine two types of microbes in particular, viruses and bacteria, and reveal very interesting features about their existence and how they interact with humans.
